Robert Thomson at the Washington Post has an interesting article and Q&A about VDOT’s planned tolls on I-66. While the value by these tolls offered to the region is still very unclear, what is clear is that VDOT has a very inconsistent approach to I-66: They want to toll the entire existing freeway inside the Beltway and not take any land in this portion, but VDOT wants to greatly expand I-66 outside of the Beltway to build toll lanes while taking many homes and residential property.
