Transform 66 Wisely is passing along the following event information. This looks to be an interesting evening with a screening of the film GrowthBusters and a discussion featuring Northern Virginia transportation issues including I-66.
The Great Falls Group of the Sierra Club along with our partners will be hosting a film screening of Growth Busters on Friday July 10th. This film screening will be accompanied by a discussion from the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter Transportation Chair Doug Stewart on the film and growth and transportation issues facing Northern Virginia. More information is available below….
Film Screening of GrowthBusters: Hooked on Growth
What are the traffic issues in Northern Virginia and Why?
WHEN: Friday, July 10; 7:30–9:00 PM
WHERE: Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, Program Building, 2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, VA
DETAILS: Join us for a screening of the GrowthBusters–and a discussion of NOVA traffic issues focusing on the I-66 widening project and what we as citizens can do to impact the transportation design so that it results in less impact on our environment. The film, which was released in 2011, describes an addiction of communities to unending, unsustainable growth that destroys quality of life and increases taxes. This documentary holds up a mirror, encouraging us to examine the beliefs and behaviors that we must leave behind–and the values we need to embrace–so that our children can survive and thrive. After the film, Douglas Stewart, Virginia Sierra Club Transportation Chair, will lead discussions on the film screening and on what you can do to lessen the impacts of growth and transportation before we end up paving over NOVA. All are welcome. Free refreshments.
